After 42 years of teaching my bones are starting to ache for fresh adventures and new challenges. Consequently, I’ve decided to retire from education at the end of this school year. But still, leaving behind so many years filled with dear friends and even more precious memories is not done without a tinge of melancholy.
First of all, let me say that it has been an honor and a privilege to have come in contact with so many extraordinary people during my career. I’ve met many wonderful and cooperative community members and parents, and worked with many, many dedicated colleagues, whose professionalism, integrity, work ethnic and selfless dedication was a continual source of inspiration to me. But most of all, it has been one of the greatest joys of my life to have worked with so many fine young people. I know some critics decry the youth of today, but having watched so many of them develop into fine men and woman, my faith in our future is full of hope. Students generally think they are the only ones who learn in school, but truth be told, I have gained far more wisdom from them than I was ever able to return. All my students have helped me become a better human being. Having had the opportunity to play a small part in the development of these young people’s lives has been an honor that I will treasure all my remaining days. I hope that you will always continue to strive to be the best you that you can be throughout your entire life. But when you do face difficult situations in your life, and believe me, you will, I hope that you will always have the courage to rise to the occasion and be that ‘Hero’ in your own story that you’re capable of being and make your parents, me and yourself proud. And by the way, as you travel through life on your chosen path keep in touch with your parents and, if you have time, drop me a note once in a while.
If you have learned anything of value from me, I hope that it was these two lessons: First, never stop learning and reading, not because it will make you a smarter person but because it will make you a ‘better’ person. And, finally, whenever you do pick up a book I hope you always think of this line by the Persian poet, Shams Tabrizi: “You will Learn by Reading. But you will understand with Love.” |

You can help! Keeping all the links on a website up-to-date is a very difficult thing for one person to do. So I would greatly appreciate it if you would let me know (by clicking here) if you find links that are no longer active. Plus, if you find any new cool educational sites, let me know about those too, Thanks.
